Diisobutylaluminum Hydride (DIBAH)

Diisobutylaluminum Hydride (DIBAH) is a pyrophoric liquid supplied undiluted or as a solution in a compatible hydrocarbon solvent.

Originally used as a cocatalyst in the Ziegler-Natta polymerization of olefins, Diisobutylaluminum Hydride (DIBAH) is used as a reducing agent in the manufacturer of fine organic chemicals, flavors, fragrances and pharmaceuticals.

Diisobutylaluminum Hydride (DIBAH) is used to reduce aldehydes and ketones to alcohols, carboxylic acids and esters to aldehydes and alcohols, amides to amines and aldehydes and nitriles to aldehydes and amines. As a result, it is widely accepted as the reducing agent of choice in the manufacture of fine organic chemicals and pharmaceuticals because of its ability to selectively reduce a wide range of organic and organometallic compounds.

As a global supplier of aluminum alkyls, we have an intense focus on safety and an active product stewardship program involving our customers. Utilizing our in-depth working experience and manufacturing knowledge of organometallics, our Alkyls Technical Service (ATS) teams based in both the USA and India are available to provide technical assistance, emergency response, on-site safety audits and training to ensure the safe handling and use of metal alkyls.

Gulbrandsen can provide not only neat aluminum alkyls but can utilize its cost effective manufacturing facilities to provide metal alkyl solutions in various hydrocarbon solvents in any concentration required. We can also manufacture custom alkyl mixtures to match your particular requirements.

Results are shown for neat Diisobutylaluminum Hydride:
• Aluminum, wt% = 18 – 19%
• Diisobutylaluminum Hydride (DIBAH), wt% = 95% MIN
• Triisobutylaluminum (TIBA), wt% = 5% MAX
• Other R3Al, wt% = 0.5% MAX

Gulbrandsen’s fleet of purpose-built aluminum alkyls shipping containers have been designed, manufactured an maintained in accordance to ASME, DOT, IMDG, ADR/RID standards for the shipment of pyrophoric, spontaneously combustible, flammable and dangerous when wet liquids. This ensures the safe, world-wide transport of our metal alkyls products.
